Sanand Police Bust Illegal Liquor Party At Weekend Bungalow, 81 Detained

| Updated: February 5, 2026 14:05

A late night celebration at a private weekend bungalow near Ahmedabad turned into a major crackdown after Sanand police raided an illegal liquor party being held to mark a couple’s 25th wedding anniversary.

Police officials said the operation was carried out late Wednesday night following a specific tip-off. The raid took place at Plot No. 200 in the Safal Nirvana Greens weekend home project near Goras village. The weekend Project falls under the Sanand Police Station limits in Ahmedabad Rural district.

The gathering was hosted at a bungalow booked for the silver jubilee celebrations of a Mumbai-based couple.

According to media reports, investigators identified the organiser as Amit Gopilal Pacheriwal (49), a resident of Marine Drive in Mumbai, who had reportedly arranged the event for his brother-in-law Adarsh Agrawal and invited several friends and acquaintances.

According to police, foreign liquor was served without any permit, violating Gujarat’s strict prohibition laws. Officers said the bungalow had been set up with food counters, seating arrangements, and even hookah facilities, indicating a well-planned private party.

Parties like these once again expose the claims that Gujarat is a dry state.

“A liquor party was underway when we entered. Some guests tried to escape, leading to confusion, but all were detained,” a senior officer was quoted in media reports.

In total, 81 people — including 43 men and 38 women — were taken into custody for questioning. According to sources, among those taken into custody include those having relations with builders, doctors and businessmen.

During the raid, police recovered and seized a large quantity of prohibited items. It included sealed bottles of foreign liquor worth Rs. 43,550, several partially filled and empty bottles, 70 glasses, 10 hookahs, hookah flavour packets and containers.

Authorities also seized 74 mobile phones valued at around Rs. 26.30 lakh and 22 cars collectively worth nearly Rs. 2.65 crore. The total value of the seized property has been pegged at approximately Rs. 2.91 crore.

Police said further legal action will follow under the Gujarat Prohibition Act, and the role of the organisers as well as the source of the liquor supply is being investigated.
