Struggling with excess weight is a reality for millions, and navigating several diets, workout plans, and so-called miracle solutions can be exhausting. Many people start strong but find it difficult to maintain momentum.
Dr. Arjun Sabharwal—a nephrologist who once dealt with obesity himself—broke this cycle. He lost 40 kg and dramatically improved his health, and now he’s sharing the method that helped him get there.
In a post shared on Instagram on November 11, Dr. Sabharwal revealed the single strategy that drove his transformation, along with practical guidance for anyone hoping to lose weight in a safe and lasting way.
According to Dr. Sabharwal, the core principle couldn’t be more straightforward. “I myself have lost 40 kilograms, and the only method for weight loss is a calorie deficit,” he says. He recalls a recent conversation with a patient who wanted to know the most essential factor behind successful weight loss.
He told the patient that no matter the approach—high-protein meals, strength training, gym sessions—the foundation is the same: track what you eat and monitor your calorie intake. “Calculate everything and count your calories,” he emphasises.
Dr. Sabharwal acknowledges that the beginning can be the hardest. “The first week will be tough, the second week will get easier, and by the third week, it will become a habit,” he explains. Beyond calorie tracking, he highlights two other crucial elements: willpower and consistency.
His message is clear: sustainable weight loss doesn’t come from shortcuts or complicated diet plans. It stems from understanding your calorie needs, showing up every day, and having the determination to stay on course.
