Online backlash against Indian-origin people in the US has reached levels hitherto unseen. American journalist and right-wing activist Matt Forney has suggested an extreme measure to bring peace to the US. He has urged all Indian-Americans be sent back to India to “save lives”.
He predicted violent attacks on the community in 2026.
In a now-deleted post on X, Forney claimed that hatred toward Indians in the U.S. would escalate to dangerous levels next year. He alleged that Indian-origin individuals, their homes, businesses, and Hindu temples would become prime targets for violent attacks, including mass shootings and bombings.
Claiming he was “someone who wants peace in America,” Forney called for the mass deportation of all Indian-Americans. He wrote, “We must DEI: Deport Every Indian.”
Forney is an American columnist, writer, and journalist with a history of spreading anti-Indian remarks and advocating for deportation on social media platforms like X. His posts recently led to his firing from The Blaze, where he worked as a reporter covering H-1B visas and Indian issues.
He had previously attacked Kruti Patel Goyal, an Indian-American recently appointed CEO of the e-commerce platform Etsy. He wrote, “Yet another unqualified Indian takes over an American company. And I guarantee her first action will be to fire every American and replace them with other Indians, either directly or via bodyshops. DEI: Deport Every Indian.”
Anti-immigrant rhetoric in the U.S., especially targeting Indians and the H-1B visa program, has surged since Donald Trump’s presidential campaigns. With Trump in the White House, MAGA supporters and extremist voices have grown more aggressive.
According to a media report, researchers at the Center for the Study of Organized Hate documented a spike in anti-Indian sentiment on X over the past year. In October alone, nearly 2,700 posts promoted racism and xenophobia against Indians and Indian-Americans.
In his deleted post, Forney predicted that Indian hatred would peak in 2026, resulting in a record number of anti-Indian attacks. He wrote, “Indians will be racially singled out for violence, Indian-owned businesses will be vandalised, Hindu temples will be hit with bombings and mass shootings.”
Forney claimed the attacks would not come from white Americans but from racial minorities such as African-Americans, Hispanic-Americans, and Pakistani-origin citizens. He also alleged that the media would “cover up hate crimes they would otherwise eagerly blame on MAGA and Trump.” He argued that deporting Indian-Americans was the only way to maintain peace.
His post triggered intense backlash on X. One user accused him of “using coded language to make a threat if Indians aren’t forcibly removed.” Forney later deleted the post and posted a clarification, saying he had written it because “Indians were marshalling their mass report squads.”
Screenshots of the deleted post circulated widely, challenging Forney to take responsibility for his words. Other users called him cowardly and condemned his rhetoric.
One even tagged the FBI, urging that Forney be placed in “solitary confinement” for inciting violence. The same user also tagged India’s Ministry of External Affairs, suggesting it pursue an Interpol notice against him.
