The forthcoming Vibrant Gujarat summit, kicking off this Wednesday, is poised to surpass its 2019 record of 28,360 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signings, as per Rahul Gupta, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of the Gujarat Industries Development Corp. This marks a significant comeback for the state, following the cancellation of the 2021 edition due to pandemic restrictions.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is slated to inaugurate the summit on Wednesday and will be in Gujarat from Monday until January 10.
In the meantime, Gupta dismissed rumors of an MoU signing with Tesla, although their participation is anticipated. He stated, “The Gujarat government is prepared to welcome any decision taken by Tesla. We would be more than happy to welcome the EV maker.”
This year’s summit will host industry titans such as Lakshmi Mittal of ArcelorMittal, Mukesh Ambani, Gautam Adani, Kumar Mangalam Birla, Anil Agarwal of Vedanta Group, Uday Kotak, and Sameer Nigam of PhonePay.
The summit has seen a steady increase in MoUs over the years, with 21,304 in 2015 and 24,774 in 2017, approximately 70% of which materialized. Officials are optimistic that this year will see a realization rate of 90%.
The summit is also set to fortify ties between India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), following PM Modi’s visit to the COP28 summit in Dubai in December. UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan will grace the Gujarat summit as the chief guest on January 9.
With a focus on futuristic technology, the summit will delve into sectors like semiconductors, green hydrogen, e-mobility, and space manufacturing. With over 100,000 registrations, a substantial increase from 48,000 in 2019, and 32 partner countries compared to 15 in 2019, this edition is poised to be a record-breaker.
The Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit, conceptualised in 2003 under then Chief Minister Narendra Modi, continues to foster growth and innovation in the state.
