Gujarat Woman Made To Dip Fingers In Boiling Oil Over Fidelity Doubts

| Updated: September 20, 2025 17:54

In an incident that has sent shockwaves across Gujarat, a woman in Mehsana district was allegedly forced to dip her hands into a pot of boiling oil. All to prove her fidelity to her husband.

The incident reportedly occurred on September 16 in Gerita. It surfaced only after a chilling video of the act went viral three days later. As it shook public conscience, the police swing into action.

The disturbing video, now widely circulated on social media, shows a woman in her 30s being coerced by three others to dip her hands into scalding oil.

As her fingers briefly enter the pot, she is seen immediately pulling them out in excruciating pain from the burns.

Reports said that the police told the media that the alleged perpetrators include the victim’s sister-in-law Jamuna Thakor, Jamuna’s husband Manubhai Thakor, and two men whose identities are yet to be revealed.

“The victim’s sister-in-law suspected that she was not loyal to her husband. So Jamuna along with her husband and two other men decided to make her undergo an ordeal. They told her she will not get any burns if she had been a loyal wife,” Deputy Superintendent of Police Dineshsinh Chauhan told a section of the media.

The Vijapur police has registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the accused, who face charges related to assault and cruelty.

The case has again raised questions about deeply entrenched patriarchal norms and superstitious practices still prevalent in rural India.
