20-Year-Old Arrested

In a recent series of thefts that spanned nine days, a 20-year-old man has been apprehended by Surat police for stealing cash, a mobile phone, and a DVR from three upscale restaurants in the Vesu area.

The arrested individual, identified as Sahil alias Sahil Gaando Pathan, allegedly targeted three establishments – Zero, Engine, and a café affiliated with the Khelghar Sports Academy – all located in the affluent Vesu neighborhood. The thefts occurred during the early morning hours, starting from December 9. Notably, Pathan reportedly used a high-end KTM bike as his mode of transportation during these criminal activities.

Vesu police responded to three separate complaints of theft filed by the affected restaurant owners. Jayesh Sheta (40), the proprietor of Zero Restaurant on VIP Road, reported a theft on December 11. Pathan entered the restaurant’s basement, reached the dining area, and broke into a room to steal Rs 24,000 in cash and a mobile phone from the cash counter. Following the theft, he swiftly fled the scene on his bike.

On December 9, Pathan targeted a café opposite Dhanera Bungalows. Breaking the kitchen’s lock at approximately 5:45 am, he pilfered Rs 20,000 in cash after breaking the counter lock with a butter knife. To eliminate potential evidence, he also stole the DVR of the CCTV system. The complaint was filed by the café’s owner, Harsh Shyamsukha.

Engine Restaurant, owned by Raees Shaikh (38) near Nandini-3 Society on VIP Road, fell victim to Pathan’s criminal activities on December 17. Exploiting a small opening under the main door, Pathan entered the premises during the night when ten staff members were present. After gaining access to the kitchen via the garden area, he proceeded to the banquet hall, where he broke the cash counter and stole Rs 20,000 in cash and a mobile phone valued at Rs. 10,000. Pathan also damaged a plastic net near the exit gate in the garden area before making his escape.

The police were able to apprehend Pathan following the string of thefts, and he now faces charges related to his alleged nine-day crime spree.
