Thousands of persons lost their loved ones and their parents due to the Covid-19 pandemic all over the world and across the country.
Replying to questions by the opposition in the state Assembly, the government said that 27,674 children had been orphaned due to the COVID-19 pandemic and that it had received petitions for government assistance.
The Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment addressed the House in response to questions posed by Congress MLAs. The reply submitted by the minister stated that in Gujarat, children who have lost their parents due to Covid-19 are paid a monthly allowance of Rs 4000/-
The government received 27,674 applications under this scheme in two years till December 31, 2021. Of these, 20,970 applications have been approved, 3,665 applications have been rejected and 3,009 applications are pending.
The state government has declared 10,942 Covid-19 casualties but has approved as many as 20,970 petitions of children who have lost both parents or one of the parents.
Ahmedabad reported the highest number of COVID cases with 2,500 applications, followed by Rajkot with 2,137 and Bharuch with 1,970 applications for assistance. The state received the highest number of applications for government assistance for orphaned children due to the Covid-19 virus, with 330 in Dahod and 312 in Porbandar. Out of total applications, 3,665 applications were rejected.
To a question regarding assistance given to Corona warriors, the Health minister replied that assistance has been paid to 94 Corona warriors infected in the course of their duties as part of essential services during the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic
