Following an HC directive to clamp down on their sale, as many as 53 people were arrested on Wednesday for selling banned Chinese manja (kite-flying string) and lanterns.
Fifty people were arrested with 500 Chinese string reels from Nikol, Kagadpith, Narol, Dani Limda, Maninagar, Shahibaug, Naroda, Dariapur etc while two were arrested with 90 reels of banned string reels in Satellite.
In west Ahmedabad, two youths on a two-wheeler were detained after the Satellite police seized 90 reels of the banned Chinese manja worth Rs 21,500 from them.
An offence has been registered against all the accused at various police stations.
