Gujarat: 845 Posts Of Doctors In 14 Hospitals Remain Vacant Amid Omicron Surge

| Updated: December 27, 2021 14:38

Seven months ago, the Delta variant unleashed a wave of infections across the state resulting in loss and grief. Omicron, which is three times more transmissible than Delta, as per the Union Health Ministry has now begun to unleash yet another wave of infections.

However, amidst this surge in cases, it is shocking to know that a total of 845 posts of doctors in 14 public sector hospitals and medical colleges remain vacant.

Two months ago, there were 815 vacancies across the hospitals which have gone further up. Instead of regular recruitments, the Gujarat government still continues with its 11-month contractual appointments.

On November 22, 10,000 doctors protested across the state in abeyance upon assurances by the health department. Their pending demands include promotions and non-practising allowance.
