On trail of gangster Raju Thehat’s murder in Rajasthan, who was shot dead in Sikar, Rajasthan, on December 3, the Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) on Sunday, nabbed a man believed to be the alleged supplier of arms and ammunition to the notorious Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
Trailing the case, led the Rajasthan police to nab the main accused in the gang rivalry murder. Police interrogation joined the dots to arrive on the name of the arms supplier, Vijaypal Bishnoi aka Fauji, a resident of Bikaner. He has been on the “wanted” list by Rajasthan Police for being a crucial link in the illegal arms racket from across the border.
Acting on a tip-off that Fauji was travelling from Kheda to Bikaner in a truck with ready-to-eat Bikaji savouries, the Rajasthan police contacted the Guyjarat ATS. The consignment was intercepted at Mehsana toll booth.
The ATS team headed by inspectors JN Chavda and DB Basiya led the operations. “He was sitting next to the driver and on asking his name, he did not fake one. Perhaps, he thought this was a routine check,” shared the officials.
During interrogation, Bishnoi confessed to having supplied arms and ammunition for the conspiracy to murder Thehat. He was placed under arrest and judicial procedures are underway to hand him over to Rajasthan police.
It may be recalled that just a few days ago, gangster Rohit Godara, believed to be at large outside India, claimed responsibility for the murder through videos on social media. His gang owned to have committed Thehat’s murder in association with the Bishoni faction.
The Thehat murder plot involved a group of five. All were seized with foreign-made pistols (Turkey and China) in their possession.
