Take Refinery To Gujarat, Return Good Projects: Uddhav

| Updated: May 6, 2023 15:43

Uddhav Thackeray, chief of the Shiv Sena (UBT), stated on Saturday that the proposed oil refinery in Barsu, a coastal district in Ratnagiri, should be relocated to Gujarat and that successful investment projects from the neighbouring state should be brought to Maharashtra.

When speaking with locals in Barsu, Thackeray suggested that the government should consult the community before putting forth any plans. Some locals are opposed to the refinery on the grounds that it will negatively impact the coastal Konkan region’s fragile biodiversity and also hit their livelihood.

The Vedanta-Foxconn and Tata-Airbus are gone. Take this project to Gujarat and return successful projects to Maharashtra, implied Thackeray. When the Samruddhi highway was being built, similar protests, according to Thackeray, occurred when he was the chief minister.

But we engaged the protesters in conversation. We figured out a way to do it without impeding progress, Thackeray said. Thackeray had attempted to organise a rally in the Barsu-Solgaon area earlier but had been denied permission.

According to officials, supporters of the refinery project also planned a rally concurrently in the area.
