In Gujarat, savvy money moves are nothing new. Lately, communities are taking it a step further by turning bulk buying into big savings. Their business acumen is without compare. Now, they are showing different ways to get a good deal.
From luxury cars to construction equipment, they are negotiating discounts.
One standout example comes from the Jain community. A national daily has reported that a major initiative by the Jain International Trade Organisation (JITO) led to the purchase of 186 luxury cars across India.
All at heavily bargained rates. The collective deal, involving vehicles priced between Rs 60 lakh and Rs 1.34 crore, resulted in total savings of Rs 21.22 crore.
A large share of buyers was Gujaratis from Ahmedabad. They have formed a key part of the nationwide drive. With a 65,000-strong membership across India, JITO partnered with dealers of 15 top brands, including Audi, BMW, Mercedes, and Samsung, to negotiate better deals for its members.
Himanshu Shah, vice-chairman of JITO Apex, was quoted as saying that community buying gave them more bargaining power. He mentioned that brands gained from assured volumes and lower marketing costs. Members enjoyed great savings.
He said that in this single drive, members purchased luxury cars worth Rs 149.54 crore, saving a total of Rs 21.22 crore.
Buoyed by the success of this venture, JITO has now launched a dedicated vertical to focus solely on community buying. The organisation is expanding the model to include sectors such as electronics, jewellery, medicines, and more.
Meanwhile, the Bharwad community has also embraced collective buying — but with a focus on empowerment. The Bharwad Yuva Sangathan Gujarat recently coordinated a bulk order of 121 JCB machines aimed at promoting self-employment among its youth.
Dilip Bharwad, president of the organisation, told the daily that the initiative was designed to help young people start their own businesses. He said that even those lacking strong credit histories were able to secure JCBs without any down payment, relying only on PAN and Aadhaar verification, with the community standing as guarantor for repayment.
From high-end cars to heavy-duty equipment, Gujarat’s communities are proving that collective action isn’t just smart but profitable too.
