Indian Man Arrested After Allegedly Killing Wife, Three Relatives in Atlanta

| Updated: January 24, 2026 16:20

What seemed a fairly normal day took a shocking turn for a family.

An Indian man unleashed gunfire that killed his three relatives and wife in Atlanta.

Three children, including a 12-year-old child, hid inside a closet to escape the man who was possessed to destroy anyone in his firing range.

Showing great presence of mind, the 12-year-old called 911, a helpline. That call helped officers get crucial information. They arrived at the scene within minutes.

The reason for the killings is reportedly a domestic dispute.

Authorities have identified the accused as 51-year-old Vijay Kumar. He was arrested following the carnage.

Kumar is the father of the 12-year-old child.

The Consulate General of India in Atlanta reportedly said it was deeply distressed by the incident. He confirmed that assistance was being extended to the bereaved family.

Gwinnett County Police identified the victims as Kumar’s wife, Meemu Dogra, 43, of Atlanta, and three relatives — Gourav Cumar, 33, Nidhi Chander, 37, and Harish Chander, 38. They are all residents of Lawrenceville.

Investigators said the incident began with an argument between Kumar and Dogra.

According to reports, the police added that the couple then travelled with their child to a residence on Brook Ivy Court, where Gourav Cumar, Nidhi Chander and Harish Chander lived along with two minors aged seven and 10.

Vijay Kumar has been charged with four counts of aggravated assault, four counts of felony murder, four counts of malice murder, one count of cruelty to children in the first degree, and two counts of cruelty to children in the third degree.
