Celebrating one year since its inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vantara on its Foundation Day reflects on its one-year journey of providing advanced medical care and scientific-based breeding to wildlife, in addition to rescuing them.
Founded by Anant Mukesh Ambani, Vantara has rescued and rehabilitated thousands of wildlife species including big cats, reptiles, primates, birds and other mammals. In the past one year, Vantara’s veterinary teams have performed complex surgeries and rehabilitated animals in their natural habitats , while some animals have been rescued , treated and rehabilitated before being released back into the wild.
In its first year of operation, Anant Ambani received the prestigious Global Human Award for his significant global contribution to wildlife conservation and enhancement , which emphasizes a commitment to compassionate, science-based conservation. Vantara’s work has also been recognized internationally through membership of EARAZA and SEAZA , Global Human Conservation Certification , and the Animal Friend Award 2005. Despite all these accolades, the organization has always focused on creating a long-term impact.
The organization focuses on providing a better future for thousands of children by training veterinarians in breeding medicine , organizing over 50 national and international knowledge-sharing programs, and inspiring the next generation of conservationists through outreach programmes.

Over the past year, Vanatara has rescued animals from sad and exploitative situations, while providing world-class veterinary care and long-term specialized support to over 250 elephants engaged in activities such as logging, circuses, riding and begging . Many of these elephants are living with arthritis and other age-related ailments. Vanatara also provides ongoing care to thousands of crocodiles rescued from overcrowded facilities. With support from across India and around the world, Vanatara embodies a world-class conservation model based on compassion, welfare and science.
Designated as the National Referral Centre for Wildlife (West Zone), Vantara has strengthened India’s wildlife health ecosystem by integrating wildlife health with comprehensive disease surveillance and integrated response systems. At the heart of its science-based approach to treatment is a scientific laboratory and 11 satellite laboratories, supported by over 70 experts, processing over 2,000 diagnostic samples daily, including bio-banking , next-generation sequencing, molecular diagnostics, pathology, parasitology and toxicology.
