Commonwealth Sport Delegation To Land In Ahmedabad To Inspect 2030 CWG Preparations

| Updated: April 8, 2026 10:28

The paperwork is done. The ratification is in. Now is the time for inspections.

Ahmedabad has been talking about 2030 for a while now. Starting Tuesday, someone will come to see how much of that talk has turned into action.

A delegation from Commonwealth Sport will arrive in the city on April 8. They stay till April 11. This is their first trip since Ahmedabad was officially named host of the 2030 Centenary Commonwealth Games.

The group is headed by the president and CEO of Commonwealth Sport. They are not here for the ceremony. Officials say this is the first of several visits planned over the coming years to check on progress.

The four days will be busy. The delegation will sit down with senior state government officials. They will also walk through the sites being developed as Games venues. Venue development, athlete experience, operational planning — these are the areas on the table. Getting on the same page now, officials say, matters more than it might seem. Decisions taken at this stage will shape the next round of design and construction work.

Gujarat has bigger ambitions tied to the Games. The state wants 2030 to move the needle on sports infrastructure, city transport, tourism and public engagement.

That work, officials reportedly said, has already started.

Officials involved in the planning also told media houses that this visit is where planning ends and execution begins. It is also a chance to put their progress in front of Commonwealth Sport and make sure nothing is out of step with global expectations.

India hosted the Commonwealth Games in Delhi back in 2010. Ahmedabad is next. The delegation landing this week is a sign that 2030 is no longer far away.
