A mysterious disease has been spreading in Gujarat, where around 80 sheep and goats have died after showing similar symptoms. Not only that, several other animals have also been affected by the disease. The most concerning part is that even after the deaths of 80 animals, the exact cause remains unknown, while the other affected animals remain at risk. What is this mysterious disease that is taking the lives of livestock?
This incident has been reported from Vadia town in Gujarat’s Amreli district, where people are in panic as nearly 80 sheep and goats have died one after another. The owners of the livestock are in distress as their animals continue to die.
The sarpanch of the town, Manish Dholaria, said that the sheep and goats showed symptoms of fever, weakness, breathing difficulty, and were unable to eat or drink anything.
He further explained that on Friday night, he received a call from a livestock farmer. After the panic call, he immediately went to meet him. The farmer informed him that many animals had died, and around 80 animals in the taluka had died due to the suspected disease. He immediately contacted the Animal Husbandry Department and informed them about the situation.
The team from the Animal Husbandry Department arrived and collected samples from the carcasses, which were sent to the laboratory for testing.
He further said that the animals which are currently sick are undergoing treatment. However, the exact cause of the deaths of the sheep and goats will only be known after the test reports are received.
Furthermore, a detailed survey of animal health has been initiated, and necessary guidelines have also been issued to prevent the suspected disease from spreading further.
Harsh Dalsania, an officer from the Animal Health Department, stated that a thorough investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the deaths. He also said that samples from around 1,200 animals have been collected and sent to the laboratory for testing. Only after the reports are received will officials know which disease is spreading in the town and why the animals are dying.
The owners of the sheep have also demanded immediate vaccinations, medicines, and health check-up camps to prevent the situation from worsening. The death of livestock on such a large scale has created panic in the town, as these losses could severely affect the financial condition of the farmers.
