A 13-year-old student studying at a residential school in Gujarat’s Aravalli district is undergoing treatment in a hospital after he was allegedly beaten by the school’s principal and a trustee. According to the boy’s family, the child was assaulted after being accused of looking at another student’s internal examination paper.
The incident has sparked concern after the boy’s father alleged that his son was physically tortured for nearly two-and-a-half hours and denied even basic necessities such as drinking water during the ordeal. A police case has now been registered, while the family claims that justice has been slow.
Family Alleges Student Was Beaten for Hours
According to the complaint filed by the boy’s father, the Class 8 student was called by the school’s trustee on July 18 after he was accused of viewing another student’s examination paper.
The father said the trustee informed him over the phone that disciplinary action would be taken against his son. Worried about what had happened, the parents rushed to the school.
However, by the time they reached the campus, they found their son in tears. The child reportedly ran towards them and told them that he had been repeatedly slapped and beaten with a plastic pipe by the principal and the trustee.
Parents Claim School Failed to Give a Proper Explanation
The family said they sought an explanation from the school authorities about why such severe punishment had been given to the child.
According to the complaint, the parents were not given a satisfactory response. Instead, they alleged that school officials asked them to take their son home and even threatened to expel him from the school.
The father has also claimed that his son was kept confined inside a room for around two-and-a-half hours during the incident and was not allowed to drink water.
Child’s Health Deteriorated After the Incident
After returning home, the boy reportedly complained of dizziness and severe body pain. His parents then contacted the emergency helpline.
Paramedics shifted the child to Modasa Civil Hospital, where doctors examined him. The hospital later informed the police about the case, describing it as a medico-legal matter.
As his condition required further treatment, the student was later admitted to a private hospital, where he continues to receive medical care. According to the family, the child has swelling around his ears along with pain in different parts of his body.
Father Says Family Is Struggling Financially
The boy’s father said the family’s financial condition has made the situation even more difficult.
He said they cannot afford expensive treatment in a private hospital for a long period and may have to shift the child to a government hospital if medical expenses continue to rise.
The father also alleged that the police were not cooperating with the family in the initial stages of the investigation and claimed that none of the accused had been arrested when he made the statement.
Police Register FIR Against Principal and Trustee
Following the complaint, Modasa Rural Police registered an FIR against the school’s principal and trustee.
The case has been filed under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for voluntarily causing hurt. Police have also invoked relevant sections of the Juvenile Justice Act considering that the victim is a minor.
The investigation is now underway, and police are expected to examine the allegations made by the family, record statements of those involved, and gather evidence before taking further action.
Investigation Continues
The incident has raised serious questions about the treatment of students and the use of physical punishment in educational institutions. While the family has demanded strict action against those responsible, the police investigation will determine the facts surrounding the allegations.
Authorities are expected to continue their inquiry as the child recovers in hospital and further details emerge in the case.
