While most children his age are just beginning to learn numbers and the alphabet, four-year-old Arjun Vishal Prajapati from Vadodara is busy asking questions that even adults struggle to answer.
He wonders why numbers never end, what existed before the Big Bang, and what happens when infinity is subtracted from infinity. His deep curiosity and exceptional thinking ability have now earned him membership in Mensa, the world’s oldest and most well-known high-IQ society, and Intertel, an even more exclusive international intelligence society.
Achieving membership in both organisations at the age of four is considered an exceptionally rare accomplishment.
Qualified for Two Prestigious High-IQ Societies
Mensa accepts only people who score within the top 2% on recognised intelligence tests. Intertel has even stricter standards and generally accepts only those who rank in the top 1%.
Unlike school exams, these organisations base their selection on carefully supervised psychometric intelligence assessments rather than academic performance. Arjun’s dual qualification at such a young age highlights his exceptional intellectual abilities.
Outstanding IQ Scores
Arjun underwent the Stanford-Binet Intelligence Scales, Fifth Edition (SB5), one of the world’s most respected intelligence assessments. His results were remarkable:
Full Scale IQ (FSIQ): 141, placing him in the 99.7th percentile
Working Memory Index: 146, above the 99.9th percentile
Nonverbal IQ: 149, above the 99.99th percentile
The assessment was conducted by licensed clinical psychologists in Canada. Based on these results, Arjun also qualified for the Davidson Young Scholars Programme, which supports profoundly gifted children.
His Love for Learning Started Early
According to his parents, Arjun’s passion for learning became evident long before he entered school.
At just 18 months old, he had already begun reading independently. By the age of two, he was reading road signs, restaurant menus and maps with ease.
His ability to understand written information at such a young age surprised those around him and hinted at the exceptional abilities he would later demonstrate.
Mathematics Is His Favourite Subject
While many children his age are learning to count, Arjun enjoys solving much more advanced mathematical concepts. He is comfortable with:
Multiplication tables up to 20
Numerical patterns
Mathematical concepts generally taught around Grade 5
However, what excites him most is not simply finding the right answer. He enjoys understanding why numbers behave the way they do and the logic behind mathematical ideas.
Curiosity Beyond Mathematics
Arjun’s interests are not limited to numbers. He is fascinated by science and often asks questions about how oxygen travels through the human body, why even and odd numbers behave differently, and concepts such as infinity, black holes and deep space.
His curiosity extends well beyond what is typically expected from a child of his age.
Learning Beyond the Classroom
To help nurture his abilities, Arjun is enrolled in gifted education coursework through Northwestern University, where he studies subjects including cellular biology and human physiology.
His learning journey goes beyond traditional classroom education, allowing him to explore advanced scientific topics from an early age.
A Child With Many Interests
Despite his extraordinary academic abilities, Arjun enjoys a wide range of activities outside his studies. He likes playing football and basketball, swimming, practising yoga, painting, playing the piano, and learning new languages such as French and Spanish.
His parents believe maintaining a balance between academics and hobbies is important for his overall development.
Parents Believe Curiosity Matters More Than Pressure
Arjun’s father, Dr Vishal V. Prajapati, is a physician based in Vadodara, while his mother, Mahita, is a lawyer who studied at the National Law School of India before completing an LLM in the United States. They say they have consciously avoided putting academic pressure on their son.
Instead, they focus on encouraging his natural curiosity by exposing him to books, museums, meaningful conversations and opportunities to explore new ideas.
His father says they have never expected him to become extraordinary. Their role, he believes, has simply been to provide an environment where curiosity can grow naturally.
Dreaming of Becoming a Physician-Scientist
Arjun already dreams of becoming a physician-scientist, combining medicine with research to solve important scientific questions.
For now, he continues doing what he enjoys most—asking questions that many people never think to ask and exploring the world with an endless desire to learn.
His remarkable journey is a reminder that with curiosity, encouragement and the right environment, young minds can achieve extraordinary things far beyond their years.
