No. 1 In FDI: Gujarat Attracts $73.9 Billion, Powers Ahead In AI And Semiconductors

Gujarat is strengthening its position as a major investment destination in India, attracting $73.9 billion in cumulative foreign direct investment (FDI) between April 2020 and 2025. The figure was highlighted at the Viksit Gujarat Summit at GIFT City, based on the recently released NITI Aayog Investment Friendliness Index 2026.

The state is now looking beyond its traditional strengths in manufacturing, automobiles and renewable energy, with a growing focus on semiconductors, artificial intelligence, data centres, cybersecurity and other advanced industries.

Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel said Gujarat has maintained its position as the top recipient of cumulative FDI inflows since 2019 and is working towards becoming a globally competitive investment hub.

Gujarat Emerges as Major FDI Destination

Gujarat attracted cumulative FDI of $73.9 billion between April 2020 and 2025, according to the data highlighted by the state government.

Speaking at the Viksit Gujarat Summit, Patel said investment initiatives have helped Gujarat establish itself as a preferred destination for both new investments and foreign capital.

The summit focused on emerging technologies and the state’s long-term vision of becoming a globally competitive investment hub.

From Manufacturing to Technology

Gujarat has traditionally been known for its manufacturing, automobile and renewable energy sectors. However, the state is now rapidly expanding into technology-driven industries.

Patel said the development of semiconductor plants, data centres and artificial intelligence infrastructure is adding new dimensions to Gujarat’s industrial ecosystem.

He described Gujarat as a “global gateway to the future.”

According to Patel, three semiconductor plants are now operational in the state, laying the foundation for a stronger semiconductor ecosystem.

The state has also recently introduced dedicated policies for Global Capability Centres (GCCs) and data centres, which are expected to support the development of hyperscale facilities in the coming years.

Data Centres Get Additional Push

Patel said the Centre’s proposed tax holiday for data centres until 2047 would further strengthen Gujarat’s position in the sector.

The focus on data centres comes alongside Gujarat’s efforts to build an ecosystem around artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies.

The AI Centre for Excellence anchored by GIFT City is expected to act as a link between technology and industry. Patel said GIFT City’s financial services ecosystem would also provide world-class support to technology and investment firms.

Khavda’s Renewable Energy Potential Highlighted

Gujarat’s renewable energy sector was another major focus at the summit.

Denmark’s Ambassador to India, Rasmus Abildgaard Kristensen, highlighted the potential of Gujarat’s renewable energy sector, particularly the Khavda renewable energy park.

He said the integrated deployment of solar power, wind energy and battery storage at Khavda could influence the future of clean energy not only in India but across the world.

Focus on Future-Ready Industries

The summit was organised in collaboration with the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, IBM and AMNEX under the theme “Building India’s Future-Ready Economy.” Discussions at the summit covered several areas, including:

Semiconductors and advanced industries
Artificial intelligence
Cybersecurity
Green energy
Smart cities
Infrastructure

The broader focus was on positioning Gujarat as a global leader by 2047.

Vibrant Gujarat Initiatives Helped Attract Investment

Patel said initiatives such as the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit and Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conferences have played an important role in positioning the state as a preferred destination for new investments and foreign capital.

He said Gujarat’s development should not be measured only through investment figures but also through improvements in the quality of life of its citizens.

According to Patel, the state has evolved into both a growth engine and a development model for the country.

Gujarat’s Investment Ambition

With strong FDI inflows and growing activity in semiconductors, artificial intelligence, data centres and renewable energy, Gujarat is seeking to broaden its economic base.

The developments highlighted at the summit show the state’s effort to combine its established industrial strengths with newer technology and clean-energy sectors.

The overall vision is to build an investment ecosystem capable of attracting global companies, supporting advanced industries and helping Gujarat strengthen its position as a globally competitive economic hub by 2047.
