AAP now eyes Gandhinagar Civic Polls

| Updated: September 29, 2021 9:20 pm

After an impressive entry in the Surat Municipal Corporations, the Aam Aadmi Party is all set to debut in the Gandhinagar Civic Polls which are scheduled on October 3. The party’s main plank in the civic polls is the covid mismanagement by the ruling BJP.

Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation elections were earlier scheduled for April 18 but called off after a scary second phase of Covid 19. The polling will be held for 44 seats in 11 wards between 7am and 6pm on the day and the counting of votes and the announcing the results would be done on October 5, the state election commission (SEC) has said. The BJP is currently in power in all the eight municipal corporations in the state.

To pep up party workers, Delhi Deputy Chief Minister and senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia flew down to Ahmedabad. Along with Sisodia AAP Gujarat president, Gopal Italia and party member Isudan Gadhvi addressed the public in Gandhinagar on Wednesday afternoon and presented their plan of action in Gujarat.

Speaking about the upcoming civic body polls in Gandhinagar, he said, “Surat has given confidence and hope to the Aam Aadmi Party and Gandhinagar will change the wind of Gujarat with the same hope and confidence.” Earlier this year, the AAP won 27 seats out of the 120 seats in the civic elections for the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) while BJP won the elections with 93 seats.

Not using the ‘caste’ card

At the conference organised by AAP in Gandhinagar on Wednesday afternoon. Sisodia said, “We are not here to play any religious or caste-based games. We don’t divide people. All we have to say and show is our work.  I’m confident that with an inactive Congress and ineffective BJP; we will win Gujarat. We are a strong alternative in the state.”

Gopal Italia, AAP Gujarat president, said, “BJP should be ashamed for not even acknowledging the families who lost their lives in the pandemic. We cannot bring back lives of those who have gone but we will help those who have lost their loved ones, when AAP comes to power in Gujarat.”

Meanwhile, Kejriwal himself is on a two-day visit to Punjab where he is scheduled to meet with industrialists and businessmen in Ludhiana. The party has also said that the Delhi CM is set to make “big announcements” during his press meet on September 30 in the city.
