Arvind Kejriwal led Aam Aadmi Party on Thursday announced to go solo in Gujarat for the civic elections that are due by the end of the year.
Isudan Ghadvi, Gujarat unit president of AAP, told media persons that the party would fight the elections alone.
Elections to municipal corporations, taluka panchayats and district panchyats are likely to be held by the end of the year.
Ghadvi said that the party has come out with a form for those interested to contest elections. The forms will be available from Janmashtami.
The leader claimed that people are fed up with the ruling BJP and there is a severe undercurrent on the ground. “I have never seen such an undercurrent in the past as a politician and a journalist,” he further claimed.
Ghadvi also went on to claim that lakhs of people had joined AAP in Gujarat in the campaign that had begun from August 1.
In the meantime, AAP’s announcement to go solo has been met with criticism from the opposition Congress.
Gujarat Congress spokesperson Dr. Manish Doshi told Vibes of India that the announcement was scripted from New Delhi.
Accusing AAP of being the “B” team of the BJP, he said their sole motive is to divide the votes and help the BJP.
