Ahmedabad: AUDA To Scrutinise Realty Projects In Shela & Godhavi

| Updated: July 14, 2022 15:46

Following the torrential rains on July 10, the ground floor of the parking lot of Maher Homes-1 apartment scheme caved-in, causing serious damage to the property. This accident damaged the main PNG pipeline and two vehicles parked on the floor. This realty project by Vishwanath Realtor is located in Shela area, which is a newly developing residential area on the western outskirts of Ahmedabad.

This collapse has prompted Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (AUDA) into action. The authority has decided to check the work of all under-construction projects in the areas under its jurisdiction including Shela and Godhavi. This investigation will help the authority to ensure that incidents like the Maher Homes- 1 collapse are prevented in the future. AUDA will look at various guidelines that the builders are expected to adhere to, which will include the following of Comprehensive General Development Control Regulations (CGDCR).

According to sources, the cave-in at Maher Homes-1, which is a five-year-old residential scheme, occurred because the developer failed to construct a proper diaphragm wall in the under-construction scheme. Diaphragm wall is a concrete or steel-reinforced wall built as a permanent foundation. The electricity and gas supply was cut off after the cave-in at the apartments. Some residents also raised questions regarding the realtor’s working style and the company’s commitment to the safety of the people in the area.
