Ahmedabad-Based KD Hospital Launches Advance Lung Disease Clinic

| Updated: August 18, 2022 14:43

The Kusum Dhirajlal (KD) hospital, Ahmedabad, a centre of excellence for Pulmonary Medicine, is all set to launch a brand-new, cutting-edge treatment programme for the management of End-Stage Lung Disease. On August 17, Wednesday, well-known Heart & Lung Specialists gathered for the event’s inauguration.

Chronic respiratory diseases are among the most frequent noncommunicable diseases worldwide. Unfortunately, compared to other illnesses like cardiovascular disease, cancer, stroke, etc., these disorders have received considerably less public attention. With the rising number of respiratory diseases, it is more important than ever to take concrete action.

Dr Mukesh Patel, Senior Consultant-Interventional Pulmonologist & Lung Transplant Specialist at KD Hospital, shared his opinions. He stated, “Lung transplantation has emerged as a definitive treatment option for advanced lung diseases. Establishing modern Transplant Centres is important to help patients live a longer yet healthier life.”

“Worldwide, end-stage lung disease is a difficult condition for patients to live with, for families to support and for physicians to treat. Many of these patients become bed-bound, oxygen dependent and live a compromised life. In such situations, a lung transplant becomes the only definitive and proven therapy.”  Dr Sandeep Attawar, Chair and Director of Thoracic Organ Transplants and Assist Devices at the KIMS Institute for Heart & Lung Transplantation, Hyderabad, explained.

The symptoms of chronic respiratory disease are:

  •  Shortness of breath, especially during physical activities.
  • Wheezing.
  • Chest tightness.
  • A chronic cough that may produce mucus (sputum) that may be clear, white, yellow or greenish.
  • Frequent respiratory infections.
  • Lack of energy.
  • Unintended weight loss (in later stages)
  • Swelling in ankles, feet or legs.

Dr Adit Desai, the managing director of KD Hospital, continued, “The End Stage Lung Disease Clinic at KD Hospital, Ahmedabad, will provide the most advanced & comprehensive treatments for patients suffering from long-term respiratory diseases. We aim to reduce the burden of such diseases by providing expert care at affordable rates.”

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality due to chronic respiratory illness in India. More than half of COPD patients were not getting adequate rational inhalation treatment in primary to tertiary care settings.

KD Hospital is a huge 6-acre campus hospital with 300+ beds and also contains approximately 45 super-specialities under one roof. Moreover, multi-speciality approach allows each speciality to feel comfortable working together on challenging cases, resulting in a thorough evaluation and treatment of the patient.

Further, Gujarat’s most cutting-edge lung transplant programme is to be launched thanks to an exclusive partnership between KD Hospital and KIMS Hospital, Hyderabad. With one of India’s most experienced Lung Transplant Teams and one of Gujarat’s most experienced Pulmonology Teams, KD Hospital seeks to offer the best pulmonary treatments feasible at an affordable price to patients from all social strata.
