| Updated: June 26, 2022 16:40

Ahmedabad Crime Branch, early this morning, arrested Teesta Setalvad. Setalvad was presented in court, where the Crime Branch sought 14-day remand for her. The public prosecutor said in the court that the case was dragged out by Teesta Setalvad for raising false documentary evidence and embezzling money.

Setalvad, on the other hand, said that the Gujarat ATS team did not even give her enough time to pick up her phone. The ATS team broke into her house and confiscated the phones, she said, alleging that she was not even allowed to talk to her lawyer. She said she was brought to the Ahmedabad Crime Branch office at 6 am.

As such a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to investigate the case. The team will have 3 IPS officers and members of SOG’s ACP SIT. The entire investigation will be carried out under the chairmanship of ACP BC Solanki. DCP Crime Chaitanya Mandlik, DIG Deepan Bhadran of ATS, SP Sunil Joshi of ATS will be members of SIT. It is said that the team will investigate Setalvad’s bank accounts, financial statements, and any foreign connections she may have had until now.

Setalvad has been booked for her involvement in a new case of forgery, criminal conspiracy, and insulting criminal proceedings to cause injury. The Gujarat ATS detained social activist, Setalvad in Mumbai on Saturday from her Juhu home. She was then taken to the Santacruz police station for an FIR filed against her at the Ahmedabad crime brancḥ. Crime branch inspector D B Barad, while lodging the complaint, accused her and two former IPS officers of forgery, criminal conspiracy, and instigating criminal proceedings to cause injury, among others. RB Srikumar has also been brought in as he, along with Sanjeev Bhatt, is also accused in the complaint.
