Ahmedabad police arrested four people for trafficking illegal drugs from Mumbai to Ahmedabad. The police were on the watch for the drug criminals and had set up a watch for them.
The four individuals were caught with MD drugs worth Rs.29 lacs. Mephedrone, a psychoactive stimulant is commonly known as MD drug. The criminals were held in a car at SP Ring Road after being followed along the Expressway.
The Crime Branch squad discovered 289 grammes of MD worth Rs. 28.90 lakh on their person. 203.9 grammes were in the possession of Idrish Sheikh, and Raja Sheikh was possessing 85.10 grammes. Two other persons, Dhanush Asodiya and Manu Rabari, too were detained along with. Idrish Sheikh had previously been detained under the Prohibition Act and the Arms Act.
It is reported that the accused have been smuggling drugs out of Mumbai and selling them to customers in Ahmedabad for the last eight months. The two accused took a bus from Mumbai to Surat and used a car thereafter to reach Ahmedabad. One Adil of Dongri in Mumbai has been identified as the drug supplier, it was reported.
There has been a spurt of instances of catching MD drugs being supplied to in and around Ahmedabad. Crime branch in the recent past has busted a gang involved in this nefarious trade hiding behind e-commerce. The bylanes around rich neighbourhoods of Sindhubhavan road in Ahmedabad have also been a scene where ganja and other drugs are caught by the police with an increasing frequency in the recent past.
