Ahmedabad’s cybercrime branch arrested one Ejaz Khan Pathan, accused of duping numerous individuals by selling fake Aadhaar cards, voter ID cards, birth and death certificates, and even electricity bills.
The Cybercrime police uncovered a stash of 100 forged documents, including two Aadhaar cards, 16 election cards, and 11 birth-death certificates. DCP Ajit Rajian said that the operation, sprawling across various websites, involved a probe of counterfeit documents claimed to be issued by the Ahmedabad and Vadodara Municipal Corporations.
Pathan reportedly created these documents for over a hundred people, raising concerns about potential passport frauds. “We are carrying out further investigations,” disclosed a cyber sleuth.
Operating out of Fatehwadi Canal, Juhapura, Pathan allegedly swindled several people by marketing these forged documents as genuine, amassing over Rs 1 lakh in the process.
Authorities also seized laptops, mobile phones, computers, printers, and other equipment worth Rs 52,150 used in the forgery operation. The accused faces charges under the IPC and Section-66(c) of the Information Technology Act.
According to the sources, Pathan initially obtained a few original documents, which he then photoshopped and altered with different names. “We will also be questioning those who got these documents made from him,” stated ACP Jeetendra Yadav.
