Ahmedabad Police on Monday arrested two Dating App swindlers. According to the reports, two accused lured a retired professor on tinder like dating app for gay, bi, trans, and queer people-Grindr and blackmailed him. The accused extorted Rs 5 lakh from the professor.
In the matter, accused Dipen Hasmukh Patel (Nava Vadaj) and Harshil Rakesh Patel (New Ranip) created a fake account on Grindr dating app and lured Ahmedabad based retired professor with their chat. They, with other four gang members, invited a retired professor at Green City Apartment near Nirnay Nagar area of Ahmedabad and extorted Rs 5 lakh from him. Ahmedabad Cyber Cell has already arrested two accused who according to the Police are the masterminds. The other four accused who manhandled the retired professor are still absconding.
Just like the latest Netflix documentary- ‘The Tinder Swindler’, the accused wanted to support their lavish lifestyle and hence created a fake account on a dating app to swindle money from people. The masterminds in the matter were unemployed and were looking to find an easy way to earn money. The Ahmedabad police are still investigating how many people this gang has swindled as many people don’t come out to launch an FIR in such cases fearing slander.
