Ahmedabad Police Officers Booked in Bribery Case

| Updated: February 26, 2024 14:41

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has booked two police officers in Ahmedabad for demanding and accepting bribes. One officer has been arrested, while the other is currently on the run.

The accused officers are Police Constable Rajubhai Bhopabhai and Assistant Sub Inspector Akbarshah Fakirshah Diwan, both of whom were working in the surveillance squad of the Rakhial police station.

According to the ACB, the officers had been dealing with individuals facing gambling charges. The officers allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs. 10 lakh from these individuals in exchange for not harassing them, making their case bailable, and managing their release on bail. After some negotiation, the final bribe amount was agreed upon at Rs. 1.35 lakh. Following this agreement, the accused officers released the individuals on bail directly from the police station.

However, the individuals contacted the ACB, unwilling to pay the bribe. In response, the ACB arranged a trap. During this operation, Assistant Sub Inspector Akbarshah Fakirshah Diwan was arrested while accepting the bribe. Meanwhile, Police Constable Rajubhai Bhopabhai managed to escape from the scene.

The ACB is currently pursuing the fugitive officer and further investigations into the case are ongoing.
