SDA School Of Ahmedabad Releases CCTV Footage: Student Stabbing Incident

| Updated: September 4, 2025 13:17

A fortnight after the fatal stabbing of a Class 10 student, the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) School in Maninagar on Tuesday night released CCTV footage and a timeline of events to counter allegations of negligence.

Nayan Santani was stabbed by a class VIII student outside school. Santani managed to reach the school after he was stabbed. He succumbed to the injuries in the hospital.

While the school has claimed its staff responded within a minute, the city crime branch maintained the boy was left unattended for nearly 40 minutes.

Sources said that the CCTV footage has been doing rounds in the teachers’ group of the school.

The School has said that Santani was seen leaving the school at 12.50 pm on August 19. He returned just three minutes later clutching his stomach. According to the school, he was noticed by a security guard at 12.54 pm and the staff was alerted.

Soon the staff reached the spot and called 108 (emergency service). The student was taken to the hospital in an autorickshaw on the request of his mother. The ambulance arrived later.

However, the crime branch has disputed the claims of the school and has maintained that Santani remained unattended for 40 minutes.

A senior police officer has been quoted in an English national daily that they will add the charge of culpable homicide not amounting to murder against the principal as they now have more evidence of criminal negligence.

The officials have cited a report by the district education officer Rohit Chaudhary. In his report, Chaudhary has noted the absence of a medical emergency facility in the school.

Santani’s postmortem report revealed that he had sustained a 1.5 cm stab wound that caused the loss of nearly 2.5 litres of blood due to internal bleeding.

The incident led to massive protests and the agitated parents vandalised the school.

A large number of students have taken leaving certificates from the school after the incident and several others are keen to get out of the school.

There have been allegations that brawls between the students were common in the school.

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has ordered an investigation to find out whether the India Financial Association of Seventh Day Adventist – the organisation to which it leased over 10,400 square metre plot in Khokhra for the construction of the school — is a trust or a company.

The plot where the school stands was leased for 99 years through a public auction more than 20 years ago with the condition that only an educational institution could acquire the land.
