Niti Aayog under Indo-German cooperation released Sustainable Development Goals, Urban Index where Shimla, Coimbatore, and Chandigarh topped the charts while Ahmedabad scored 69.79 out of 100 and came 9th. Surat scored 69.36 and came 11th. Dhanbad where coal mining activities are happening on a large scale came at number 56.
A score between 65-99 shows that a particular urban area is a front runner to achieve SDG set for 2030. So, according to the data 31 urban areas are front runners to achieve the goal.
To ascertain the performance of the Urban area, Urban Local Bodies were ranked on parameters set by the United Nations 17 Goals for the Sustainable Development.
Some of the Positives in these 56 centers are that 9 out of 10 households are using clean cooking fuel in 31 urban areas, at least 9 out of 10 births are institutional births in 37 urban areas, at least 9 out of 10 urban areas in 35 centers have sanitation facilities
Indo-German development cooperation shows a strong partnership between the two countries. Niti Aayog along with Germany’s International Cooperation Agency (GIZ) and BMZ collaboration works under the Indo-German Development Cooperation.
