The Air India flight AI191 from Mumbai to Newark was forced to return mid-air on Wednesday due to a suspected technical snag experienced by the crew.
The crew made a precautionary air-return to Mumbai due to a suspected technical issue. The flight took off around 1:15 am and returned to Mumbai at 5:30 am, nearly three hours after departure earlier in the day. The flight landed safely back in Mumbai.
Consequently, both flight AI191 (Mumbai-Newark) and its return counterpart, AI144 (Newark-Mumbai), were cancelled.
Affected passengers in Mumbai were provided hotel accommodations and rebooked on alternative Air India and other airlines’ flights.
Passengers of AI144 from Newark were also notified and are being assisted with alternative arrangements.
This incident is one of a few recent technical issues for Air India. It must be noted that less than a week ago, on October 17, an Air India flight from Milan to Delhi was cancelled due to an “extended technical requirement.” Earlier this month: An Air India flight from Vienna to Delhi was diverted to Dubai after a suspected technical snag, though it later resumed its journey after inspections.
