With thousands of fans reaching Ahmedabad to witness the IPL 2025 final between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Punjab Kings, there has been dramatic rise in airfares for the Ahmedabad-bound flights.
The final will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium, world’s largest cricket stadium, on Tuesday evening.
Along with the rise in the airfares, blackmarketing of tickets has also been reported. Ahmedabad police arrested a person selling six Rs 1,500 each tickets for Rs 5,000 each. Sources, however, said that he was later released after a warning.
According to reports, in several social media groups, people are posting about tickets of IPL Final for sale. There are a number of them selling these at a premium.
Initally, the IPL final was not scheduled to be played in Ahmedabad. However, now that the game has been moved to Ahmedabad, a full house is expected at the stadium having a capacity of over one lakh.
Fans are reaching Ahmedabad from Mumbai, Bengaluru, New Delhi, Hyderabad, Punjab and Kolkata. People are also reaching from smaller cities.
Usually, the one way fare between New Delhi and Ahmedabad, which is around Rs 4,000, has increased manifold. The fares in IndiGo Airlines have reached as high as Rs 18,000.
The seats are sold out in certain sectors.
In some airlines, the prices of the business class tickets in some sectors have doubled — nearing Rs 50,000.
The story of the prices increasing is the same in all airlines — IndiGo, Akasa Air, SpiceJet, Indian Airlines.
There is a rush for hotel bookings as well.
The second playoff between Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings had witnessed rains and a delayed start.
Going by a forecast by the weather department, a clear sky is unlikely. “Our forecast for tomorrow indicates light to moderate rainfall in isolated areas, particularly for Ahmedabad and nearby regions. The temperature in Ahmedabad is expected to be around 37 degrees, with a high likelihood of cloudy skies,” Arunkumar Dasane, director of the Ahmedabad weather department, told a section of the media.’
