Alia Bhatt Opens Up About Her Parents’ Struggles in Film Industry

| Updated: March 19, 2024 13:04

In a candid conversation with Elle US, Bollywood actress Alia Bhatt shared the struggles her parents, Soni Razdan and Mahesh Bhatt, faced in their early careers in the film industry.

Soni Razdan, despite having no connections in the industry and struggling with Hindi proficiency, displayed remarkable resilience and perseverance. She transitioned from theater to film and television studios, auditioning tirelessly despite the challenges. “She came from nowhere and didn’t know how she was going to make it,” Alia said, adding that her mother’s hard work left a lasting impact on her.

Mahesh Bhatt’s journey was marked by his own set of challenges, including a battle with alcohol addiction. Alia revealed that there was a time when her father had a series of flops, was financially strained, and was grappling with alcoholism. Despite these setbacks, he eventually overcame his addiction and achieved success in his career.

Alia acknowledged the privilege she enjoys today as a result of her parents’ struggles and perseverance. “If tomorrow I don’t do well and I stop getting films, I’ll still always acknowledge the fact that I got such great opportunities, so I can never really complain,” she said.

Alia Bhatt will be seen next in Vasan Balan’s ‘Jigra’, co-starring Vedang Raina.
