Amid the increasing crime rate in Gujarat, another case has come to light in the Chunarwad of Akhbarpur in Khambat of Anand district. On Tuesday, the Khambhat police station lodged a complaint against two men and two women for torturing a woman by tying her to a tree. A video of this heinous act has gone viral on social media.
Speculations say that the woman defrauded them in the name of a government scheme. According to the locals, the woman is abusive and has tricked many people into her ruse.
She opened accounts for Sunil Jago Chunara and Meena Chunara a year ago. However, when they found her deceit, they punished her by tying her to a tree and demanding two lakh rupees from her. The locals also said that she extorted money on the pretext of various government schemes.
On July 7, four people asked the woman to bring the money. But, when she came empty-handed, they tortured her by tying her to a tree.
As per the reports, the villagers of Akbarpur are mostly into wage labour and scrap work. The villagers claim that the woman, disguised as a social worker, lured them to become beneficiaries of various government schemes, including building toilets and widow aid. Thus, she took money from the villages. However, people became agitated when they did not receive any benefits, and the woman did not even return their money.
Currently, Khambhat Police in Anand registered a complaint and are investigating the case.
