Former bureaucrat Arun Goel, who was appointed as Election Commissioner, will join the office today. Goel is a former IAS officer of Punjab cadre, was in last week nominated as Commissioner.
The Ministry of Law and Justice on Saturday informed the appointment made by President Droupadi Murmu. “The President is pleased to appoint Arun Goel, IAS (Retd.) (PB: 1985) as the Election Commissioner in the Election Commission with effect from the date he assumes the office,” the letter said.
A day prior to the appointment, Arun Goel had willfully took retirement from the position of Secretary, Heavy Industries. He will enter in association with Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar and Election Commissioner Anup Chandra Pandey in the Election Commission.
Sushil Chandra retired as Chief Election Commissioner in May this year.
