Arvind Kejriwal Talks About PESA Act, Free Electricity In Gujarat

| Updated: August 7, 2022 15:47

Arvind Kejriwal today said that Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will be providing free electricity to the people of Gujarat. Talking about how in Punjab, electricity is being supplied free of charge, he said, “Our first promise is regarding power supply. People in Gujarat are in misery. The bills are too high. We have made power supply free in Delhi. About 25 lakh households in Punjab have just recently got zero electricity bills.”

Furthermore, Kejriwal also said that when his party forms government in Gujarat, he will ensure that the Constitution’s Fifth Schedule and the Panchayat Act (PESA Act) is implemented in the tribal regions of the state. He also promised that Gujarat’s tribal advisory committee will not be headed by the chief minister but by a person from the community.  “We will implement provisions of the Fifth Schedule of the Constitution word to word. We will also strictly implement the PESA Act, which says no government can take action in a tribal area without the gram sabha’s consent,” he said.

The Delhi chief minister was addressing an event in Bodeli, Chhota Udaipur, during his two-day visit to the state. His visit to the state is part of AAP’s campaign to compete in the upcoming assembly elections.

AAP convenor made a scathing remark against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress, saying that the two parties only stand with the rich. “The election of Gujarat will be between AAP and BJP. Gujarat Congress is going to merge with Gujarat BJP. The hidden love between BJP-Congress will come out soon. On one hand, there is ’27 years of misrule’ of the BJP and on the other hand, there is ‘new politics’ of AAP,” he said.
