For the first time since its inception, the Gujarat Prohibition and Excise department has chosen a new mascot, the Asiatic Lion. The line that goes with the newest mascot is “hoon daaru peeto nathi chhata hun raja chhu. Nashabandhi aapna dwara, aapna maate” which means, even though I don’t drink, I’m still the king. Prohibition of alcohol by us, for all.
A senior official from the Prohibition and Excise department said that they chose the mascot after discussing it with the newly chosen ministers. He said that if a person does not drink, they can show their confidence like the lions. And if they are caught drinking, the police will roar like a lion in front of the accused.
Talking about the mascot, he said that Gujarat is known for two things; Asiatic lions and the ban on alcohol.
“So its very apt to make the Asiatic lion our mascot”, said official.
