Authorities Demolish Disputed Religious Structures in Junagadh

Junagadh, Gujarat: In a move aimed at reclaiming public land, the Junagadh Municipal Corporation demolished a dargah (shrine) and a temple on Saturday night. The action also included removing an illegal expansion of another temple.

This follows a year of tension after authorities issued a demolition notice for the dargah, located near Majevadi Gate. Public protests erupted, resulting in clashes with police and tragically, the death of one person.

Junagadh Municipal Commissioner Om Prakash confirmed the demolition, which began around 1 am. He emphasized that despite the religious nature of the structures, the operation proceeded peacefully due to the heavy police presence and measures taken to maintain law and order.

Junagadh District Superintendent of Police Harshad Mehta echoed this, highlighting the peaceful execution of the operation.
