Indranil Rajyaguru has rejoined the Congress, causing the Aam Aadmi Party to suffer a loss ahead of the Gujarat elections. Meanwhile, Aam Aadmi Party announced Ishudan Gadhvi as the face of AAP’s CM post, Indranil Rajyaguru has left his seat and joined the Congress.
Rajguru won the Rajkot-East seat in 2012 as a Congress MLA. In 2017, he decided to give up his reserved seat to contest the assembly elections against the then Chief Minister Vijay Rupani from Rajkot-West seat. But he eventually lost to Rupani.
In 2018, Rajguru resigned from the Congress claiming that he was unhappy with the functioning of the party organisation. He had also alleged that party workers involved in anti-party activities during elections were promoted instead of punished. In 2019 , Rajguru rejoined the Congress and campaigned for the party’s candidates during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
Gujarat Pradesh Congess Committee (GPCC) president Jadagish Thakor and AICCC Gujarat incharge Raghu Sharma welcomed Rajyaguru at a formal event held at the party headquarters in Ahmedabad.
In April 2022, Rajguru along with his supporters joined the AAP. At the time of joining AAP, Rajguru was the Vice President of Gujarat Congress. The wealthy leader, who had released assets worth Rs 122 crore, had praised AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal while joining AAP, claiming that “the Chief Minister of Delhi fights not for his party but for the people. This attitude struck me a lot.” impressed. I was in Congress from the very beginning because I wanted to serve the people. BJP has gained power by fooling people, whereas Congress has lost its ability to be an alternative. My only problem with the Congress is that He lacks the will to defeat the BJP.”
