Bihar Assembly Inducts 30 Members From ‘Mahagathbandhan’ In Cabinet Expansion

| Updated: August 16, 2022 16:29

In Bihar’s newly hitched Cabinet expansion, a total of 30 members have been inducted from ‘Mahgathbandhan’ or the grand alliance that happened at the Raj Bhavan in Patna on August 16.

Earlier, after recurrent meetings between the partners ahead of cabinet expansion, it was highly expected that the chances were quite strong for the alliance partner Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) to receive a hefty number of seats in the Cabinet followed by Janata Dal (United) and Congress.

The central-ruling party of India, BJP stands at 77, JD(U) at 45, RJD hits 79, Congress owns 19, CPI(M-L) holds 12, CPI carries 4, HAM(S) stands at 4, while other parties like AIMIM and Independent owns one seat each within state assembly.

With this new alignment in hand, the JD(U)-RJD-HAM-Congress-CPI(M-L)-CPI has an effective strength of 163 in Bihar’s assembly. The overall strength of the grand alliance reached 164 after the lone Independent MLA from AIMIM affirmed its support in favour of Nitish Kumar.

The RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav took his pledge as the Deputy Chief Minister of the state at the premises of Raj Bhavan in Patna on Tuesday.

Nitish Kumar was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Bihar for the eighth time on Wednesday, August 10, 2022. It was the second time in eight years that Nitish Kumar broke his association with the Bharatiya Janata Party. The floor test will be held on August 24, according to the sources.
