BJP’s Som Stokes Controversy Yet Again

| Updated: October 7, 2022 12:39

BJP leader Sangeet Som has stoked controversy yet again with his polarising statements. While speaking at a ‘Shastra Puja’ ceremony organised by the Rajput Utthan Sabha on Vijaya Dashami in Kheda village in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut district, Som extolled the Rajput community to take up arms as the population of only a particular community was increasing. Referring to the Muslim community, he also said that terrorism is increasing; there are talks of separatism, talks of beheadings.

“We have to be concerned about whose population is increasing. Our population is decreasing, but the population of one community is increasing. It is possible that in future we would need to take up arms when there is terrorism all around,” the former BJP MLA from Sardhana said.

Som is an accused in the 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots case and has been embroiled in many controversies with his outrageous statements. He lost the 2022 Assembly election by a margin of more than 18,000 votes to Samajwadi Party candidate Atul Pradhan.

Som also hit out at the Congress over its Bharat Jodo Yatra. He alleged that only green flags were seen when the yatra was passing through Kerala. He warned that if care is not taken, these flags will be visible in western Uttar Pradesh too.
