Bombay High Court Nullifies Look Out Circulars Against Rhea Chakraborty and Family

| Updated: February 25, 2024 10:57

The Bombay High Court on Thursday nullified the Look Out Circulars (LOCs) issued against actress Rhea Chakraborty, her brother Showik, and their father Indrajit. The LOCs were issued by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in relation to the ongoing investigation into the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput.

The decision was made by a division bench comprising Justices Revati Mohite Dere and Manjusha Deshpande, who upheld the petitions filed by the Chakraborty family against the LOCs issued in 2020.

Despite a request from CBI’s advocate Shreeram Shirsat to stay the operation of the order for four weeks to allow the agency to appeal to the Supreme Court, the High Court bench declined to suspend its decision.

Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead in his Bandra apartment on June 14, 2020. The Mumbai police initially registered an Accidental Death Report and launched an investigation. However, in July 2020, Rajput’s father lodged a complaint with the Bihar police, accusing Rhea Chakraborty and her family of abetting his son’s suicide. The case was subsequently transferred to the CBI.

The LOCs against the Chakraborty family were issued in August 2020. In September of the same year, the High Court temporarily suspended the LOC against Showik Chakraborty, allowing him to travel abroad.

In 2020, both Rhea and Showik Chakraborty were arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in a drug case linked to Rajput. They were later released on bail.
