Can Ahmedabad Afford A Flower Show Amid Rising COVID Cases?

| Updated: January 3, 2022 20:07

The fear of Corona has gripped Ahmedabad once again. The city is becoming a hot spot of Corona with a daily caseload of over 300 cases.

In this scenario, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s decision to go ahead with a fortnight long flower show from January 8 to 22, has triggered off criticism from the opposition parties and the citizens. They want the show cancelled and wonder why the AMC wants to hold the grand flower show when the Kankaria carnival in Maninagar, Ahmedabad was postponed on December 31. The opposition wants to know how AMC can guarantee that cases of Corona virus will not increase during the show.

The AMC, with the help of the police, today launched a special campaign to step up vaccination in many areas of the city.

The new Municipal Commissioner of Ahmedabad city, Mr Lochan Sehra said that only 400 visitors would be allowed entry in the flower show in an hour and all persons would have to follow Corona guidelines. Action will be taken against persons not wearing masks.

More than seven lakh flowers will be planted by AMC during this flower show.

Flowers have been ordered from abroad in this time’s flower show. Exotic flowers including Ground Orkit, Exotic Roses, Snake Saffron, Ardasia, Bhumesha, Igalia, Camellia, Japanese Tree will be the centre of attraction.
