Central Government Repeals Three Farm Laws; Here Is How Leaders Reacted

| Updated: November 25, 2021 20:02

In a noteworthy address to the nation on the occasion of Guru Nanak Jayanti, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced that the Central Government is repealing the three farm laws.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that “The government has always made efforts to improve the financial well-being of the farmers. Our government is committed to bringing welfare to the farmers and especially the small farmers… We brought the three farm laws with good intentions. A section of them has been opposing the laws for quite a long time, we made our efforts to explain and convince them of the laws that are meant for their good. We also tried to find a mid-way asking for the modification in the laws but we failed in doing so, but we failed to convince them. Hence, we are repealing the farm laws.”

Appealing farmers to go back to their homes, he added, “On this auspicious day of Guru Nanak Jayanti, we appeal farmers to return homes and to their fields.”

He also assured that he will be working even harder for realising the dreams of the country’s farmers.

The three new farm bills became law on September 17, 2021. The farmers have been protesting since November 25 last year fearing that the new laws will abolish the Minimum Support Price (MSP) by the government, leaving it on the corporation to decide.

Here is how various leaders reacted to the government’s decision:

Rakesh Tikait of Bhartiya Kisan Union said that “We won’t stop our movement until the laws are repealed in the parliament.”

Congress MP and former Party President, Rahul Gandhi said, “… Congratulations on the win over injustice!”

Omar Abdullah said that poor internal polls numbers for western UP and Punjab equals to farm laws repealed. This government only reponds to cold hard numbers and bypoll setback.

Thanking PM Narendra Modi, former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh said, “Thankful to PM Narendra Modi ji for acceding to the demands of every punjabi & repealing the 3 black laws on the pious occasion of Guru Nanak Jayanti.” He added that he was sure that the central government will continue to work for the development of farming.

Punjab Congress President Navjot Singh Siddhu said that “Repealing of black laws a step in right direction… Satyagrah of Kisan morcha gets historic success… accolates.”

Rajya Sabha MP Rakesh Sinha said that “Farm laws have been repealed but the agitating farmers should introspect with a steady mind.”
