A tragic incident on Tuesday, a 15-year-old Class 10 student was fatally stabbed by a schoolmate at Seventh Day School in Khokhra. The confrontation is reportedly linked to an earlier dispute.
The injured student was rushed for treatment but later succumbed to his injuries, leading to widespread outrage among family members and the local community.
According to police, the conflict traces back to an altercation a week earlier involving the victim’s cousin and an eighth-grade student. The disagreement reportedly began over a minor incident—elbowing on a staircase. On Tuesday, when the victim approached the student to discuss the matter, one of the latter’s friends allegedly attacked him with a knife before fleeing the scene.
Police have detained the suspects and initially filed a case of attempted murder, which is expected to be upgraded to murder following the student’s death. CCTV footage from the school premises has been secured, and statements have been recorded from several students who witnessed the incident.
Authorities say the exact sequence of events will be confirmed after a thorough investigation.
The District Education Officer (DEO) issued a notice to the school for failing to promptly report the incident and allegedly attempting to suppress it. The school has been instructed to submit a detailed report along with the CCTV footage.
On Wednesday morning, members of the Sindhi community, along with a large number of parents, gathered at the school in protest. Many held the school’s principal and staff accountable for negligence and demanded justice. In response, the school declared an immediate holiday, citing it as a mark of respect for the deceased student.
