Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has tested positive for COVID-19. Days before the much-awaited Rathyatra, the CM of Gujarat contracted coronavirus.
The news reached the citizens through a Gujarat government official. He said, “The CM has very mild symptoms, such as mild fever. His test result has confirmed that he is infected with the coronavirus. He has isolated himself at his official residence under the observation of doctors.”
On Wednesday, the authorities home quarantined CM Bhupendra Patel after he tested positive. However, as soon as his report went public, Gujaratis expressed their concern about the Rathyatra.
The Chief Minister of Gujarat performs several roles and rituals in the Rathyatra every year. The Rathyatra 2022 is more special because it will happen after two years of the global pandemic.
Rathyatra of Ahmedabad is the largest in Gujarat after the Jagannathpuri Rathyatra. The Gujarat Police gets alert months before the Rathyatra. However, as the CM tested positive, activities are on standby in Gujarat.
Everyone is waiting for an update on the person who shall perform the rituals in Rathyatra. Incumbent Prime Minister and former Chief Minister Narendra Modi have also taken part in the age-old Rathyatra traditions during his reign as CM.
Since the beginning of this month, coronavirus cases in Gujarat have been steadily increasing. The number of active COVID-19 cases increased to 2,793 on Tuesday.
