CM Patel & Gujarat Home Minister Felicitate Commonwealth Winners 2022 From Gujarat

Chief Minister of Gujarat Bhupendra Patel honoured the sportspersons of Gujarat who won medals in various games in the Commonwealth Games 2022 held at Birmingham.

On Wednesday, the Sports, Youth and Cultural Affairs Department of the Gujarat government hosted a grand ceremony in Gandhinagar in the presence of CM Patel and State Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi. They awarded Khel Pratibha Award to Harmit Desai of Gujarat, who won a gold medal in table tennis at Commonwealth 2022. She also received ₹35 lakhs with the award. They also awarded the Khel Pratibha Award to Bhavina Patel, gold medalist in para table tennis, and Sonal Patel, bronze medalist in para-athletics. Moreover, they both also received a cash prize of rupees ten lakhs.

Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel also awarded five lakh rupees each to Yashika Bhatia and Radha Yadav, women cricketers from Gujarat. Later, the CM inspired the players to participate in the initiatives by PM Modi for various sports. He said, “People’s perception about sports has changed in India. Gujarat government also supports the players with advanced training, incentives, and necessary arrangments.” He also wished the players the best for their careers and future endeavours.

Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi said, “India has made a mark in Commonwealth 2022, and the sportspersons from Gujarat have done a great job in bringing flying colours to the nation in the year of India’s Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav.” He added, “Under the visionary leadership of Bhupendra Patel, the government provided various facilties to the sportpersons, including increasing the budget for sports infrastructure. Gujarat will continue to encourage such talent.”

Gujarat will host the 36th National Games in the upcoming days.
