Paola Maino, the mother of Congress President Sonia Gandhi, passed away on August 27. Her funeral was held on Tuesday.
On Wednesday, Jairam Ramesh, general secretary of communications for the Congress, tweeted the information.
Smt. Sonia Gandhi’s mother, Mrs Paola Maino passed away at her home in Italy on Saturday the 27th of August, 2022. The funeral took place yesterday.

While Sonia Gandhi, her son Rahul, and her daughter Priyanka are now travelling abroad, specifics of their itinerary have not been made public. Over the past few years, Rahul and Priyanka have made multiple trips to see their grandma. When Rahul Gandhi came under fire in 2020 for travelling much, the party said he was there on a personal trip to see “an unwell relative.”
