Congress Wins Only 1 Seat in Gujarat, Shatters BJP’s Hat-Trick Dreams

| Updated: June 4, 2024 21:48

Out of the 26 Lok Sabha seats in Gujarat, the Congress party has managed to secure only one seat, dealing a blow to the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) hopes of a hat-trick victory. Following the announcement of the election results, Gujarat State President Shaktisinh Gohil addressed the media in a press conference, expressing gratitude towards the citizens of the country for their support and slamming the BJP for its perceived arrogance.

During the press conference, Shaktisinh Gohil emphasized the importance of citizen participation in a democracy, stating that voters had made it clear that every individual’s voice matters. He criticized the BJP for its overconfidence, citing their ‘Abki bar 400 par’ slogan, which was ultimately rejected by the electorate. Despite facing challenges such as frozen party accounts, the Congress party relied on the backing of the people to contest the elections.

Acknowledging the victory of Geniben Thakor, Gohil said, “Her transformation from being Banas’ sister (Banaskantha) to becoming a national figure whose presence will now be felt in the Lok Sabha.” He also commented on the BJP’s handling of its allies over the past decade, suggesting that cracks within the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) may lead to shifts in alliances. Gohil urged the BJP to govern independently, stating that the era of ‘mein akela sab pe bhari‘ has now arrived.
