Opposition Congress and the police on Thursday evening clashed at the Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) headquarters when the latter barged into the premises while Mahila Congress activists were staging protests against the State and Union Governments over the fuel price hikes and inflation.
The fracas that broke out ahead of a press conference of national Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera and GPCC chief Jagdish Thakor continued for nearly an hour.
Angered over the police barging into the premises, Thakor and other Congress leaders asserted this was enough and that “Home Minister Harsh Sanghvi and state BJP president CR Paatil should stop this police hooliganism.”
Speaking to Vibes of India, Pawan Khera said, “The BJP has murdered all processes of democracy in Gujarat.”
Meanwhile, newly-appointed Gujarat Mahila Congress President Jenny Thummar told VoI over the phone, “I’m in Delhi now, we were holding a protest against the government over rising prices and around 20 protesters, including me, were detained by the Delhi police here.”
“My fellow workers informed me about the incident at the GPCC office today. From the State to the Centre, the government is attacking protesters through police hooliganism”.
